Great news: the Lake Oswego City Council voted last night to give the school district approximately $2 million to help bridge the gap. The package had 3 parts: approximately $831,000 from city cost reductions, $425,000 from the library reserve, and the rest from utility franchise fees. Lake Oswego is struggling with how to respond to a $5M – $8M budget shortfall for the District. It seems that teacher cuts and the closing of schools is imperative. It’s a hot topic in Lake Oswego as to whether or not we will have a fast train running through our beautiful downtown area. I personally don’t believe the people of Lake Oswego would want to change the quaint feel of our town nor have Hwy. 43 blocked by a train crossing frequently through the day. [...]
